Mentronomy - Artist Construction

Metronomy

After analyzing an image of the “Metronomy”, it’s become noticeable that the genre is of an ambiguous indie-nature. Judging by the image, costumes, hair and accessories, they create an obscure impression - they are bright and fairly bold which conforms to the indie genre. The composition of the image gives an immediate impression of the style and manor of the band. The location of the band is irrelevant, as the main focus appears to be on the costumes and attitude of the band themselves. The lack of a substantial background indicates that the artists cannot be associated to another physical location. They have specifically made sure that they’re the centre of attention and they appear to be “in their own world” which implies they’re original and standout from their competition. The positions of all three of the characters are of great importance as they signify their individuality and innovation. The individual in the centre of the image implies that he’s the front man – he’s purposely slapping the band member on the right whilst leaning on the member on the left, which indicates a sense of authority and also showcases their rebellion nature which we believe is incorporated into their music.
After viewing one of the band’s nominated music videos, it was apparent that our first impressions complimented that of the music video itself. The video demonstrates the indie genre characteristics by implementing a unusual display which includes the band in an abnormal environment which conforms to the image as they’re again in their “own world” (such as the image below). The video sees the band being chased by numerous balls whilst the lyrics being displayed show a clear connection to the unusual setting.
