Hip-Hop Genre Information

Hip-Hop is a popular urban youth culture, closely associated with rap music and with the style and fashions of African-American inner-city residents.

Hip hop music, also called rap music or hip-hop music is a musical genre in which rhythmic and rhyming speech is chanted to musical accompaniment. It developed as part of hip hop culture, a subculture defined by three key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching, breaking/dancing. Other elements include sampling, and beatboxing.

While often used to refer to rapping, "hip hop" more properly denotes the practice of the entire subculture. The term hip-hop music is sometimes used synonymously with the term rap music.
