J.L.S -
JLS are a British boy band, consisting of members Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes,
Oritsé Williams and JB Gill.
The group originally signed to Tracklacers production company "New Track City" and then went on to become runners-up of the fifth series of ITV reality talent show The X Factor in 2008, coming second to Alexandra Burke. As of 2011, the band have sold 3 Million records.
Following their appearances on The X Factor, JLS signed to Epic Records and enjoyed continued chart success throughout 2009. Their first two singles "Beat Again" and "Everybody in Love" both went to number one on the UK Singles Chart. "Beat Again" was at the number one spot for two weeks. The band's self-titled debut album was released on 9 November 2009, and has since sold over one million copies in the UK. JLS won the awards for British Breakthrough and British Single ("Beat Again") at the 2010 BRIT Awards. They also won several awards at the Mobo awards for Best song for "Beat Again" in 2009 and also Best New Comer in the same year. In 2011 they have shown continuous success and have their sights set on topping the charts for the 5th time with their single "She Makes Me Wanna".
Aston Merrygold -
Aston was born on 13 February 1988 to a Jamaican father and an Anglo Irish mother in Peterborough, where he grew up and attended Jack Hunt School. Whilst still at secondary school, he played football on behalf of England in the European Youth Games. He grew up wanting to be a footballer but he got a nerve disorder in his left foot so he began singing but he pursued a career in acting, that is where he met Marvin Humes. Then he got a call from Oritse Williams (who knew Marvin Humes) about joining a boy band. He has five brothers and one sister.
Marvin Humes -
After meeting future fellow band member Aston Merrygold, Humes joined boyband UFO. However, after auditioning for The X Factor, UFO changed their name to JLS. JLS then went on to the final of The X Factor, where they came runner-up to Alexandra Burke. Previously, he was in a band called VS, however shortly after being formed and releasing an album they split.
JB Gill -
Jonathan Benjamin Gill was born on the 7th December, 1986. He has one sibling and his interests consist of playing the piano, flute and rugby. His first concert was Justin Timberlake and takes an interest in Michael Jackson, Beyoncé Knowles and Lionel Richie.
Oritsé Williams -
Oritsé Williamswas born in West London 27th November. His star sign is Sagittarius and has three siblings - one sister and two brothers. His high school nicknames were Glitzy Ritzy & Music Boy which is quite fitting as he grew up to be a musical sensation as part of the group. "JLS".
